Modern Slavery Statement

Hilliard & Berry Solicitors (HBS) is committed to respecting human rights and to taking purposeful action to address the global human rights issues of modern slavery, exploitation and human trafficking.

As a leading boutique Australian law firm, we recognise that business plays an important part in respecting and promoting human rights and eradicating modern slavery. That is why we remain steadfast in our support of the objectives of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth).

HBS takes a zero tolerance approach to modern slavery, fraudulent behaviour and any instances of human rights abuse.

We are therefore committed to ensuring that we do not benefit from any external supplier who may engage in any form of human rights abuse including modern slavery.

In order to ensure that our high expectations are met we have a number of control measures in place. We regularly undertake due diligence on all existing and potential suppliers and/or contractors to ensure that they are committed to compliance with the principles set out in the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth).

We also believe that we need to educate and empower our partners, lawyers and staff to recognise human rights abuses. We therefore regularly undertake training on relevant topics such as slavery, discrimination and harassment.

We understand that modern slavery is a growing and complex problem which is best addressed by a collective commitment and shared responsibility. We are committed to working with all of our stakeholders to fulfill this common goal.
